Valid point, though I still disagree it’s good to have it done this way :) More precisely:

  • I’d like an idea of having this feature implemented on IDE level: “sort the list of project files in order of their dependencies”.
  • On the other hand, I also like to have an ability to order these files in some other way — e.g. alphabetically. And moreover, I feel that dependency-based order is something I’d use much more rarely than e.g. alphabetical order.

So I totally understand if this feature is implemented on IDE level. And I cannot find a single argument for bundling the requirement to order your files in order of dependencies into F# compiler.
